Niagara Falls Lights at Night: Illumination Schedule 2026

The Niagara Falls Illumination Board operates banks of LED floodlights positioned on both the Canadian and American sides. The lights project onto the falls face and the mist cloud, creating a column of colour visible for kilometres.

The system was upgraded from halogen to LED in 2016, dramatically increasing the colour range and brightness. The current system can produce over 1,500 colours. Colour sequences change every few minutes and are programmed to reflect holidays, awareness campaigns, and special events.

The falls are illuminated every evening year-round:

January to April: dusk until 10:00 PM (midnight on weekends) May to October: dusk until midnight (1:00 AM on weekends and holidays) November to December: dusk until 1:00 AM (2:00 AM during Winter Festival of Lights)

Dusk varies by season — roughly 5:00 PM in December, 9:00 PM in June. The lights are most visible once full darkness falls, typically 30-45 minutes after sunset.

The illumination is best on nights with high humidity or light fog — the mist cloud acts as a massive screen, and the colours become three-dimensional.

Table Rock is the closest viewing point. Queen Victoria Park offers a wider panorama. The Niagara Parkway north of the falls gives a side angle that shows the colour gradient across the entire falls width.
